Transfixion

Flying home from Bristol.  We left in very poor visibility and i closed my eyes.  I opened them again when the brightness through the window disturbed my snooze!

barely able to see the lines
to write thse words upon
dazzled as i am by the view

high above the grime and grit
of the earth in slow defrost
we are members of the elite,
travellers across the universe.

blackbird

blackbird
hops
from kerb to field edge
cocks
its head to one side
pounces
with neck straining
beak thrusting down
into the cold depths of snow
returns
empty-beaked,
swears
loudly
hops
from field edge
to kerb
starts again

Waiting

I set out to get to my mother's in the Cotswolds on the day the big snow swept across the UK.  There was a lot of waiting to be done.  Once at my mother's we didn't know when we would be able to go out.  Neighbours said that they'd been going "stir crazy"!  We thought about this - we were pretty happy being snowed in, having time to chat, sort, rest, be.  The following tracks different ways of waiting from stressing to "being"!

in the moment
full attention on where i am
giving myself over to being
present in the place

counting the minutes
full attention on my wrist-watch
giving myself over to worrying
anxious to leave the place

i am here and cannot leave
snow-bound
house-bound
mind-bound

i am here and choose to stay
mind free
house warm
snow beautiful

energy needed to panic = huge
results = exhaustion
energy needed to be present = little
results = creativity and peace
